For instance, the eyes of the Mantis shrimp are among the most advanced eyes in the animal kingdom. With lots of small eye parts moving in different directions. Where humans have binocular vision, each one of the Mantis shrimp’s eye creates three separate images, resulting into a trinocular eyeball. The Mantis shrimp has two of these eyeballs, meaning it’s senocular. Human eyes can detect three colour wavelengths, the Mantis shrimp can detect twelve, nine more than the human eyes. Foundation As son of an “inland navigator”, Pieter Korterink, founder of Mantis Marine, was literally born and raised on waters. In his early years, he used to travel with his parents within the european waters transporting a multiplicity of goods. Throughout his professional career, Pieter Korterink remained rooted in his maritime family background and experiences as he advanced his career occupying positions primarily in International Business Development for organisations in the maritime industry. As a maritime professional, he geared his focus and expertise towards fundamentally understanding the needs of organisations operating in the maritime industry and serving them with tailor made innovative solutions. Instinctively, it is his commitment to serving these organisations that led to the foundation of Mantis Marine.
